Iran successfully test-fires Joshan, Khatam air defense systems

Tehran, IRNA - Domestically-manufactured air defense systems of Joshan and Khatam were successfully test-fired during major airpower drill in Iran, an Iranian commander said on Wednesday.

Brigadier General Qader Rahimzadeh, the commander of the country’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, said that in the following phase of the maneuvers named ‘Modafean Aseman Velayat 1400’ (Guardians of ‘Velayat Sky’ 1400), the Joshan and Khatam air defense systems succeeded in smashing low-altitude targets, which were trying to infiltrate the specified region of the maneuvers.

Saying that the Joshan and Khatam air defense systems have been test-fired for the first time in the drill, the commander noted that the missile system Joshan is an upgraded version of Khordad-15 using passive radar. The identified targets were smashed by an integrated air defense network.

Rahimzadeh went on to say that destroying targets in low altitude is one of the tests carried out in this phase of the maneuvers with the help of tactical missile systems based on all-round defense in electronic battlefield.

In line with Iran's powerful strategy, the Iranian air forces will not hesitate to defend the airspace of the country, he said, adding that precise assessment of hypothetical threats led the air defense forces to develop systems appropriate to such threats; therefore, thanks to God, there is no threat, which has been not thought of in advance.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) and Air Defense Force (IRIADF), as well as the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Aerospace Division, are participating in the drill.
